The church is built on a mandate which was received from God by Bishop David Oyedepo in an 18-hour vision on May 2, 1981. The mandate was to liberate mankind in all facets of human existence, to restore broken destinies and to bring healing to the infirmed.

Now the hour has come to liberate the world from all oppressions of the devil through the preaching of the word of faith, and I am sending you to undertake this task” – this is said to be the divine mandate received by the Bishop.

This birthed what we know today as Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners Chapel. The church was founded in 1983 and it began with four members. Today, it has presence in 65 countries across the world with millions of worshippers.

Its headquarters in Nigeria is called Faith Tabernacle, situated at Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. When it was built, it was a 50,000-capacity church. Today, the auditorium has been expanded and it is said to accommodate around 200,000 people at once.

Not only is it a religious platform, the Bishop is also the founder of one of the biggest private universities in Nigeria – the Covenant University which follows the doctrine of the church. Another private institution; Landmark University was also established in 2014.
