Genevieve Nnaji was born May 3, 1979, in Mbaise, Imo State, in South-East, Nigeria. She is the 4th of eight children and grew up in Lagos, where she was raised in a middle-class family. Her father, Mr. Theophilus Nnaji, worked as an engineer, while her mother, Mrs. Benedetta Nnaji, worked as a nursery school teacher.

Young Genevieve attended Methodist Girls College in Yaba, Lagos, before she proceeded to the University of Lagos and earned a bachelor’s degree in creative arts.
