List of Private Universities in Nigeria

University education in Nigeria was in the past controlled only by both the federal and state governments, but the license was later extended to individuals and private corporate bodies to establish private tertiary institutions in the country.

These institutions are allowed to operate to compliment the available government school in the country. They are expected to offer private university students first-class learning environment, expose them to standard educational tools and training equipment, practical sessions which will lead to excellent academic performance of students.

 The National Universities Commission (NUC) is the regulatory and accreditation body responsible to both public universities and private institutions. They enforce same standard and determine admission capacity for tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

This is done to maintain uniform quality of education regardless of whether you attend a federal institution, a state or a private university. Therefore, any private institution that meets the laid-down criteria by the NUC will be licensed and accredited.
